Denmark's data centres have quite a small number of people working!

Politicians often express great enthusiasm when tech giants announce plans to build data centres in Denmark. “It’s an apple that has fallen into our lap, and to stick with the Apple theme, we’re on cloud nine,” Torsten Nielsen (K), who was mayor of Viborg Municipality at the time, said when Apple first announced its data centre back in 2015 . He expected 10,000 new jobs to be created in the municipality. This prospect of hundreds—if not thousands—of new jobs is often cited as a huge benefit to society. Among other places, in West Jutland, where Microsoft is planning to build three large data centres. “I am very pleased when large companies as Microsoft choose to make significant investments in Denmark and help create new jobs.  Salesforce Doubles Down on AI Investments

Salesforce Ventures, the investment arm of cloud software giant Salesforce, has significantly increased its commitment to artificial intelligence (AI) by launching a new $500 million AI fund. This brings their total investment in AI-focused startups to a staggering $1 billion in just 18 months.

This latest fund builds upon their initial effort announced in March 2023, a $250 million generative AI fund targeted at promising startups in that specific field. Those initial investments included companies like Anthropic, Cohere, Hearth.AI, and you.com.

The decision to double down on AI investments reflects the growing importance of this technology across various industries. Despite a general slowdown in venture funding in August, AI remained a bright spot, attracting a significant portion of total funding (around 24% or $4.3 billion) according to Crunchbase data.

Salesforce Ventures has been actively participating in this trend, with over 10 recent investments in AI-related companies including Ensemble AI and Protect AI.

Insight Partners Announces New Fund

In separate news, private equity firm Insight Partners is nearing the closing of a new multi-billion dollar fund. While originally aiming for over $10 billion, the Financial Times reports the final size will likely be closer to $12 billion.

This news follows a successful exit for Insight Partners with the sale of threat intelligence company Recorded Future to Mastercard for $2.65 billion. This represents a significant return on their 2019 investment of $780 million.
