OpenAI to launch targeted ads soon

On Friday, OpenAI announced it will pilot advertisements for U.S. users on its Free and newly launched $8/month "Go" tiers. This move aims to fund the platform's free availability through non-subscribers. Premium tiers, including Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, will remain ad-free for now.
These advertisements will be displayed at the base of the chat interface and will relate to the current conversation topic. Users can manage their experience by dismissing ads, viewing targeting rationales, or disabling personalization to stop interest-based tracking. Furthermore, OpenAI will block ads for users under 18.

Despite the shift, OpenAI maintains that its AI responses will remain unbiased and unaffected by sponsors. The company also stated it will not sell personal data to third parties. This strategy is expected to generate direct revenue while potentially incentivizing users to upgrade to higher-priced, ad-free subscriptions.
